From inspiration to asset creation: Turn any photo into a color theme, Look, vector graphic or unique brush that you can use in your creative projects.
In June, we released Adobe Hue CC, a mobile app that allows you to capture color and light as you see it, saving these dynamics as Looks to enhance your video files. Today, we’re pleased to share that Adobe Hue’s features are now available as part of a brand-new app, Adobe Capture CC, available for iOS and Android.
Adobe Capture CC combines the power and full capabilities of Adobe Color CC, Shape CC, Brush CC and Hue CC to give you the ability to create color themes, custom brushes, vector graphics and unique Looks from a single photo in a simple workflow. Check it out:
Use these production-ready assets in all your creative work. Through CreativeSync, the inspiring light dynamics, color themes, shapes and textures you capture will be instantly available to use in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Premiere Clip, Photoshop, and more. Any Looks (as well as color themes, brushes, and vector shapes) you’ve previously saved to your Creative Cloud libraries through the individual apps will be automatically available within Capture CC, so you can keep on capturing inspiration wherever it strikes.

Create a Custom Look with Capture CC

To create a unique Look with Adobe Capture, tap on Looks. Tapping the + icon will launch your camera so you can capture the moment – just point your device at something and Adobe Capture will visualize the color and light available in that scene as a slowly rotating array of color bubbles. If you want to create a Look from an existing image, tap on the photo icon on the lower right to access images on your device, Creative Cloud account, or the Market.
Let’s talk about those bubbles for a moment. Rather than snapping a picture, when you create a Look, Adobe Capture CC creates a snapshot of the color and light in a scene, visualized as a rotating bubble array. If you are familiar with a 3D Histogram, you will see the similarities with the Looks capture screen. Horizontally, the hue angles are arranged around the rotating axis in the same positions you would find them on a traditional color wheel. The vertical axis shows the amount of light: Darker tones are lower down in the image, the lighter ones higher up. The size of the bubble references the amount of that color in the image.
After you tap the capture button, a simple refine screen opens.
The preview image in the top half of the screen shows how your Look will impact an image or video clip. Because the Look will impact different scenes differently, try auditioning it on some of your own footage to see how the Look will transform it! Add your own reference image or video clip by tapping the … icon.
On the bottom half of the refine screen, you can make adjustments to your Look:
- Change the midtone-shift for your Look
- Adjust the intensity of the Look
Tap any color bubble to shift the midtones in your preview image toward that color (a small highlight ring shows you which one is selected). Changing the midtone will shift the whole Look, so the impact can be pretty significant, especially on neutral tones in the target image. The slider lets you make the Look more dramatic or more subtle.
TIP: You can tap and hold the reference image to see the “before & after.” After you’ve saved a Look, tap on the Look in your library. Under the preview tab, you can swipe through all of your preview images and clips, and you can share a before & after image (as well as a link to the Look itself) with your collaborators.
Once you are satisfied with the Look, tap Next to name your Look and save it to a library. The magic of Adobe CreativeSync makes it available to use in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Premiere Clip.
